Italian Sausage Baked Ziti

This recipe is for Italian sausage baked ziti. To make this dish, you will need to cook Italian sausage and onions together in a pan until the sausage is browned and the onions are soft. You will then mix the sausage and onions with cooked ziti pasta, tomato sauce, and cheese, and bake the mixture until the cheese is melted and bubbly. This dish is a hearty and flavorful casserole that is perfect for a family dinner or potluck.

Ingredients

  • 1 box penne pasta
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pack sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 21 seasoning salute (Trader Joe)
  • Natures Promise Seasoning, to taste
  • 2 - 14 oz cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 - 67 oz Italian sausage and garlic tomato sauce (you can also make your own sauce)
  • Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Grated Parmesan
  • 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.

    Boil pasta, uncovered, until the pasta is al dente. Drain the pasta through a colander.

    While pasta is being cook start working on your sauce. In a large saucepan heat 2 tbsp of olive oil add garlic and onions. I added peppers to mine, but this step is optional. After onions become translucent add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, garlic powder, AP seasoning, and 21 seasoning salute. Bring sauce to a boil

    In another pan heat a tablespoon of olive oil then add sausage. Cook until well done

    Make ricotta mix with ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, parsley, and garlic powder.

    Add sausage and ricotta mix and pasta to sauce and fold in

    Time to layer your pasta. In a dish grease with butter add your first layer of pasta topped with
    mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Repeat for the second layer

    Bake uncovered in the oven at 350°F until the top is lightly browned and the cheese melted, about 20 to 25 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

    Serve and enjoy!
